Keep business SMS connected to the customer record
SMS remains useful when a customer does not use WhatsApp, when a configured WhatsApp delivery fails, or when a business already operates a dedicated mobile number. The difficulty is keeping those messages visible to the wider team instead of leaving the history on a handset.
PeopleTide Gateway connects an approved Android phone and business SIM to the tenant. Eligible business SMS messages and delivery events can be synchronized with the matching customer conversation. Team members can review that history alongside calls, notes, tickets, and other configured channels.
The setup workflow
- Commission an approved Android phone for the intended organization.
- Select the business SIM route and grant the required Android permissions.
- Pair the device securely with the PeopleTide tenant.
- Complete outbound and inbound tests before normal use.
- Monitor device health, message state, and delivery results.
Carrier availability, plan limits, roaming, signal, Android restrictions, and local messaging rules can affect delivery. PeopleTide does not add a per-message charge for phone-routed SMS, but normal mobile-provider charges still apply.
Capabilities available to the team
- Send and receive eligible SMS through the commissioned phone.
- Associate messages with the relevant customer timeline.
- Show sent, delivered, partial, or failed outcomes when provided by the device and carrier.
- Apply consent, suppression, and audience checks to configured broadcasts.
- Use SMS as an allowed fallback in a multi-channel workflow.
- Revoke a retired or compromised gateway device.
Compare the operational role of SMS and WhatsApp and review call tracking options if the same phone also handles customer calls.
Examples across service teams
A home-service business can confirm that a technician visit has been requested. A diagnostic centre can notify a customer that a person will follow up, without placing sensitive detail in the message. A retailer can send a permitted stock or collection update and record the delivery result.
Each organization remains responsible for its message content, recipient authority, opt-outs, quiet hours, carrier rules, and applicable law.
Frequently asked questions
Does the gateway synchronize every message on the phone?
No. The gateway applies eligibility and sender rules. OTP-like messages, alphanumeric sender IDs, and unknown senders are treated differently as documented in the product’s privacy and gateway controls.
Can the phone be used without monitoring?
The commissioned device should be monitored for connectivity, permissions, battery state, SIM availability, and queue health.
Where can administrators learn about setup?
The PeopleTide feature guide describes the available configuration areas and access requirements.
